New Campus Climate and Community Policing Principles – Is Your District Ready?

Following the murder of George Floyd, the Chancellor issued a call to action, and in May 2022, the Board of Governors adopted the most extensive changes to campus policing the Community College system has ever received. Effective January 1, 2023, districts will need to adopt community policing principles and establish an advisory committee. 

This webinar will focus on the major highlights of the new legislation, including the requirements for districts to engage in meaningful policy discussion with stakeholders; engage in collective bargaining if any proposed safety regulations or policy updates affect working conditions; require governing boards to consider new policies; adopt community policing principles; require all campus police to participate in training related to the conduct and methods of community policing, anti-bias, cultural responsibility, conflict avoidance, and de-escalation; and establish a public safety advisory committee to the local board of trustees. We will also discuss the new hiring requirements to be a campus safety employee.
