For over 25 years, AALRR has hosted its Summer Clerk Program for first- and second-year law students. Depending on our need throughout the year, successful Summer Clerks may also receive fall and spring clerkship offers.
We seek highly qualified and self-motivated candidates with an interest in working with and representing our clients. We are not shy about having our summer clerks meet and interact with clients, so we look for individuals with confidence and great personalities. Our clerkship program not only helps us serve our clients but also builds up our clerks analytical and writing skills, as most of them attribute their success in passing the practical portion of the bar to their clerkship experience. Our successful summer clerks often receive post-bar clerkship offers and become associates with the firm. We have a great track record with several of our Summer Clerks rising to become partners in the firm.
About Our Summer Clerk Program: Over the course of 10-12 weeks, our Summer Clerks gain legal skills and experience related to multiple areas of practice within the firm. They are led by supervising and project partners on assignments directly impacting clients. They work on cases poised to go to mediation, arbitration and other administrative and judicial proceedings. Summer Clerks assist with our marketing efforts and help our attorneys prepare and deliver professional development trainings to clients. Research projects span constitutional, contractual, labor, discrimination and harassment laws, to mention a few. With offices throughout California, our clerks may be asked to assist on a case in Pleasanton, while working from our main office in Cerritos. A Senior Mentor and an Associate Mentor are assigned to each Summer Clerk to help them prepare and manage their work as well as acclimate to the professional world of a soon-to-be attorney. In this manner our Summer Clerks gain knowledge and experience in a specialized area of the law and develop as a professional in the unique work environment of one of California’s premiere, collegial and most diverse law firms.
