Addressing Concerns, Minimizing Liability, and Preparing for Litigation  Related to COVID-19 Issues

Designed to help districts prepare for litigation and respond to other issues arising from COVID-19 related issues, this presentation will explore the controversy over implementation of public health orders and vaccines, and will examine free speech and discipline issues for students and staff, student residency issues, and the assessment and provision of special education services.  Learn how to minimize district liability related to these issues and how to respond to pandemic-related litigation.  This presentation will also include an update on vaccination (SB 277) litigation and other relevant legal updates. You will walk away with a better understanding of potential pitfalls and resolutions.

Our speakers will be AALRR Partner and education law expert Ronald Wenkart (who has served school districts for more than 40 years and served as General Counsel for the Orange County Department of Education for nearly 35 years), and AALRR Associate Attorney Sara Young, a former Executive Director for an Orange County school district who holds a Master’s degree in Special Education, a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and brings a breadth of experience to the table in areas of compliance and dispute resolution.
