Special Education Training Academy - Spring 2012

02.01.2012

Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo (AALRR) has scheduled a series of free events for educators for school district and county offices of education this spring; all focused on the critical topic of special education. The 2012 Special Education Training Academy launches on Friday, February 24, at the Riverside County Office of Education Conference Center. Subsequent events will be repeated throughout March and April in locations as far south as San Diego and to the north in Red Bluff.

The Special Education Training Academy was designed for Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Special Education Administrators, 504 Coordinators, Special Education and 504 School Site Representatives, Program Specialists, Special Education Case Managers, Principals and Assistant Principals. Participants will learn about appropriate assessment, new legal updates, and the FAQ’s in Special Education.

“Continually strained budgets and a shortage of qualified special education teachers, psychologists and related service providers are just two of the challenges districts face in serving California’s nearly 680,000 special education students*,” according to AALRR Partner Karen Gilyard, who is coordinating the event’s agenda and content. Gilyard represents California school districts, county offices of education, charter schools and community college districts in education law and labor relations, with a special emphasis on special education matters.

“The Special Education Training Academy provides a solid overview of the critical information that educators and administrators must know in order to facilitate successful programs and sidestep litigious situations,” adds Gilyard.
