AALRR Partner, Joseph Akrotirianakis Participates in “Legal Eagles” Fourth Annual Law Day
On November 5, 2016, the “Legal Eagles” of the Greater Los Angeles Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, hosted the 4th Annual Law Merit Badge Day for Boy Scouts at Loyola Law School.
More than 125 Scouts and adult leaders from Los Angeles, Riverside and Ventura counties attended lectures at Loyola Law School’s Robinson Court Room on legal history, civil law and criminal law covering diverse subjects from the Code of Hammurabi to the development of the U.S. jury system.
The event included presentations from lawyers and law enforcement officers featuring a special address from former Los Angeles County District Attorney, Steve Cooley. AALRR Partner, Joe Akrotirianakis, has participated in the event since its inception.
“We hope this event inspires these scouts to consider a career in law or law enforcement,” said Legal Eagles founding member Joe Akrotirianakis, himself an Eagle Scout.
Law Day also included a mock trial in which Scouts performed the roles of prosecutor, defense counsel, witnesses and jury foreman. Jacqueline Conner, Los Angeles County Superior Court (ret.), presided over the mock trial.
The Legal Eagles is a group of legal professionals who support the efforts of the Greater Los Angeles Area Council BSA, to provide young people with a better understanding of the law and to promote future legal careers in law through the presentation of the Law merit badge.
