AALRR Announces This Year’s High School Art Contest Winners

11.09.2017

Five talented high school students woke up to some exciting news last week, as AALRR announced the winners of its third annual High School Art Contest! Held in conjunction with the firm’s Education Law Conference, the contest invited 11th and 12th grade students from public schools all across California to submit a piece of original artwork that creatively captured the theme of this year’s Conference: California Strong: Building Stronger Schools Through Effective Leadership.

The art submitted by the students joyfully captured what “California Strong” means to them. While the works themselves varied, the themes they chose to depict—from collaboration and teamwork to acting as leaders in their classrooms and demonstrating excitement to learn—were unanimously inspiring. This year, the firm received over seventy entries, making it an especially difficult choice for the team of judges—including AALRR partner Thomas Lenz, firm associates, and consultants from the firm’s Educational Support Services group!

As a leader in education law, AALRR believes in giving back to the districts and students its attorneys serve daily—and its annual art contest is one way of doing so. The five award winners will each receive a $1,000 check, and their schools will receive $500 of art supplies. There was a strong turnout for Southern California school districts; the winners for this year’s contest came from Alhambra Unified School District, ABC Unified School District, Paramount School District, and Grossmont Union High School District.

“It is a privilege to be in a room filled with artwork which reflects vibrant visions from amazing youth artists.  Being a part of this contest is fun and rewarding,” commented Thomas Lenz. “The artistic talent on display confirms how important it is to inspire creativity and opportunity for California’s students. I’m pleased to know this contest plays a role in that goal.”
