This 8-hour POST-Certified Internal Affairs Update course will provide participants with a thorough review of the Peace Officers Procedural Bill of Rights Act (“POBR”), recent legislative changes impacting Internal Affairs investigations, recent case law interpreting POBR sections, Senate Bill 2 (“SB 2”) compliance, and practical challenges to assist in properly completing Internal Affairs investigations. The course is designed to be interactive and will provide multiple scenarios addressing real- life examples which attendees will be challenged to address.

Instructor:

John H. Bakhit is a retired Oakland Police Officer and a partner with Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo (AALRR), where he leads the firm’s Law Enforcement Team. John advises and counsels Law Enforcement Agencies on all matters concerning Internal Affairs Investigations, POBR, Officer Involved Shootings (OIS), Discipline, Policy Audits and Updates, and Collective Bargaining. Prior to joining AALRR, John represented Police, Fire, and Attorney associations for over 15 years.
