Legal Update and Best Practices for Assessments and IEPs

Special education expert, Sundee Johnson, will provide a legal update, highlighting Ninth Circuit and District Court cases of interest as well as any new developments in the law related to Special Education as featured in AALRR’s 2019-2020 “It’s the Law Now: A year in review in Special Education.” In addition, Ms. Johnson will provide a comprehensive, interactive presentation entitled, Developing Legally Defensible IEPs during which she will discuss the substantive and procedural components of FAPE, Child Find, appropriate assessments, IEP meeting participants and exceptions, necessary IEP components, including the IEP meeting agenda, assessment data/observations/input, identifying present levels of performance, goal writing, taking IEP meeting notes, accommodations, identifying services and placement, finalizing an offer, implementing the IEP and measuring progress on IEP goals. All members of your District’s special education team, including Superintendents, Special Education Directors/Coordinators, School Psychologists, Site Administrators, Speech Language and Occupational Therapists, Pupil Services Administrators and Special Education Teachers will benefit from this presentation.
