Overview

Peter Denno handles a wide array of labor and employment law and general counsel matters for public school districts. His areas of concentration in labor and employment matters include labor negotiations, grievance processing, personnel discipline and dismissal, disability accommodation/interactive process, discrimination and harassment claims, and layoffs. In addition, Mr. Denno regularly assists public school districts with student discipline cases, student rights issues, Public Records Act requests, Brown Act compliance, and conflict of interest laws.

Mr. Denno has represented public school districts in numerous state and federal civil court matters, including the successful defense of writ of mandate cases filed under the Public Records Act and the Brown Act. He has also successfully obtained several restraining orders protecting school administrators and staff members from threats of violence at work. Mr. Denno also regularly represents public school districts in matters before state and federal administrative agencies, including the Public Employment Relations Board, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the California Department of Education, and the Office for Civil Rights.

Mr. Denno is also an experienced speaker who conducts frequent trainings, workshops and webinars for public school districts across a wide variety of topics, including board governance, Brown Act, labor and employment, student rights, and student discipline. He is a certified FRISK trainer and a qualified AB 1825 sexual harassment prevention trainer.
