Overview

Christina Checel represents employers in all aspects of labor and employment law, including collective bargaining, grievances, investigations, discrimination, harassment, leaves of absence, employee termination and discipline, and workplace training.

Prior to joining AALRR, Ms. Checel served as the Associate Vice Chancellor of Labor and Employee Relations at the California State University’s Office of the Chancellor where she assisted campuses across the state of California with labor matters including negotiations during the COVID-19 pandemic, layoffs, and statewide concerted activity. She has also worked as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Los Angeles, wherein Ms. Checel was general counsel to the Los Angeles World Airports Police Division, handling their labor and employment issues involving contract interpretation and application, hearings, arbitrations, counsel on the Public Safety Officers Procedural Bill of Rights Act (POBR), First Amendment, investigations, due process rights, public records, and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) issues. Ms. Checel was also the Principal Deputy City Attorney for the General Law Division for the City of Long Beach where she advised all departments, was general counsel to the Civil Service Commission, Police Department, Fire Department, and Department of Human Resources, and handled civil service hearings, writs and appeals.

Prior to entering the legal profession, Christina was a high school Spanish teacher.
