Overview
Jon Ustundag is a member of the firm’s Commercial and Complex Litigation Practice Group and Intellectual Property Team. Mr. Ustundag serves clients in commercial disputes and all facets of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. He has experience in intellectual property litigation, prosecution, and transactions.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Ustundag received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Materials Science. His technical experience includes automobiles, medical devices, aircrafts, semiconductors, wireless communication, artificial intelligence, video games, robotics, optics, surface coatings, cryogenics, industrial process machinery and controls, apparel, sports equipment, and a wide range of other consumer goods.
In law school, Mr. Ustundag was a clinical student of the UC Irvine Intellectual Property, Arts, and Technology Clinic where he counseled film producers and authors on matters involving copyright infringement, fair use, and defamation. As a law student, Mr. Ustundag received a Dean’s Award in Patent Law and served as the President of the Intellectual Property and Cyberlaw Society.
Representative Matters
Prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent, trademark, and copyright applications and successfully obtained dozens of patent grants, trademark registrations, and copyright registrations on behalf of clients.
In 2024, helped obtain a favorable settlement on behalf of client following claim construction in a patent infringement suit where four mechanical utility patents and two design patents were asserted against client.
In 2024, won a domain name arbitration on behalf of client whose domain name registrations and contents were accused of trademark infringement, counterfeiting, and cyberpiracy.
In 2023, successfully reinstated client’s product on Amazon that was removed based on a falsified DMCA notice.
In 2023, helped obtain a favorable settlement on behalf of client in a multi-million-dollar copyright infringement suit against one of the largest film distributors in the world.
In 2023, helped settle a matter involving claims of interference with economic advantage and breach of duty of loyalty with trade secret misappropriation implications against client.
In 2022, successfully settled matter involving claims of trade secret misappropriation and breach of contract claims against client.
