Overview
John Bissett is a member of AALRR’s Northern California Education Law Practice Group and provides guidance on a variety of matters that affect school districts in Northern California. Mr. Bissett has represented and advised school districts and community college districts regarding personnel matters, processing CPRA requests, responding to subpoenas, conducting investigations, and reviewing and revising board policies to comply with current law.
Prior to joining AALRR, Mr. Bissett worked as a defense attorney in the field of workers’ compensation and also spent time working for the state of California in the Department of Managed Health Care’s Help Center. Mr. Bissett has years of experience conducting thorough depositions, appearing before administrative law judges, and advising on and implementing investigatory strategies.
Outside of law, Mr. Bissett is an avid musician. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UC Santa Cruz in the fields of music and musicology, respectively. He has played in various ensembles as a bass trombonist and electric bassist throughout the Bay Area and Southern California and has performed in several noted venues including the Monterey Jazz Festival, Yoshi’s (San Francisco), and Carnegie Hall. He and his wife, Lorna, are active proponents of music education in their community through volunteer work in Sacramento area schools and private instruction.
