Over 500 in Attendance at AALRR’s Annual EdLaw Conference

11.09.2017

Over 500 school administrators—including principals, superintendents, board members, and other educators—gathered from all over the state this week at Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo’s Education Law Conference to explore issues on the forefront of the education dialogue in California. The firm’s EdLaw conference, held annually in both Stockton and Cerritos, is now in its fourteenth year.

The conference presentations were divided into five categories most relevant to participants: HR/Labor Relations, Special Education, Facilities/Business Services, Higher Education, and Student Services. AALRR attorneys provided these groups with a comprehensive legal update about recently changed laws specific to their fields and covered key topics in their breakout sessions. Subject matters discussed ranged from mental health assessments to best practices for a successful construction project to Title IX compliance.

Dr. Carl Cohn, Executive Director of the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence, gave the conference’s welcome address in both conference locations. A veteran educator and an expert in his field, Dr. Cohn highlighted some of the issues facing the state and provided an inspiring call to action for all educators to address systemic gaps in the education system. In keeping with the conference theme, California Strong: Building Stronger Schools Through Effective Leadership, Dr. Cohn’s message highlighted the possibilities for every school administrator to make a difference in the lives of the students they serve every day.

“AALRR is one of the premier firms in the state when it comes to education law. We’ve worked with hundreds of districts—and have represented many of these for decades—to help them when problems arise, and prevent issues from occurring when we can,” commented James Baca, the firm’s Chief Operating Officer. “We place a high priority on giving back to our clients and our community and are proud that our EdLaw Conference has become an important resource to them—and one they rely on to do their best work.”
