Shawna M. McKee

Senior Associate

Practice Areas

Shawna McKee regularly advises school districts and community college districts on personnel and employment law matters, including discipline and termination, compliance with leave requirements, and workplace violence policies. She has experience conducting employment-related investigations, and has represented public agencies in matters before the Public Employment Relations Board.

Ms. McKee also advises public agencies on Brown Act compliance, responding to compliance complaints, and replying to Public Records Act requests. Ms. McKee assists clients with negotiating and drafting settlement agreements, conducting research and analysis, drafting motions, and propounding and responding to discovery requests. Ms. McKee also has experience with transactional matters, including drafting and conducting comprehensive review of professional service agreements. She advises public agencies on state prevailing wage law, as recently amended by Senate Bill 7 and Senate Bill 854. She also represents a variety of clients in administrative proceedings and in litigation before state and federal courts.

Education
Shawna McKee earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy, magna cum laude, from the University of California, Irvine, and her Juris Doctor, cum laude from Harvard Law School. While in law school, she was the Primary Editor and Technical Editor of the Women’s Law Journal and a co-chair of the Professional Development Committee for the Women’s Law Association. As an undergraduate, she received the Robert C. Byrd Honor Scholarship and was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society.

Community Involvement
Ms. McKee has served on the Advisory Council for the Assistance League of Huntington Beach, a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and adults in our community.
