Robert is a partner in the Pleasanton office. In addition to his litigation practice as defense counsel, mediator and expert witness, Robert maintains an extensive regulatory and policy practice on state and federal issues at the agency level. His practice includes representation at the United States Department of Labor, the Office of the Solicitor, the National Labor Relations Board, Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as well as various state based agencies, including the California Department of Labor, California Energy Commission and Public Utilities Commission. His areas of expertise include wage and hour law, human resources, international labor and employment law, construction, energy, hospitality and manufacturing. He handles public works issues on a statewide and national basis. He has had an active association practice as an amicus at the United States Supreme Court and other appellate courts.
Mr. Fried sits on the Legal Committee of the California Chamber, as well as its Employer Relations Committee. He serves as outside general counsel for a broad variety of employer associations. He was named one of 12 outstanding attorneys by the East Bay Business Times in its annual review of area attorneys and has been consistently listed as one of the top litigators in the San Francisco Bay Area (Top Lawyers in the Bay Area, Bay Area Lawyer Magazine).
Robert’s public service has included appointments to public office under three California governors, including service on the transportation industry panel of the Industrial Welfare Commission. He was recently appointed to represent California business on the California Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities (CCEPD) by Secretary of Health and Human Services Agency Diana S. Dooley.
Mr. Fried is a frequent writer and lecturer. He has had a key authorship role in the creation of California’s most respected publications on human resources and labor and law, published by the California Chamber of Commerce. Robert also serves as Highlights (Labor) Editor for the Association of Transportation Law Professionals and as a contributing author to The Fair Labor Standards Act (2nd Edition BNA/ABA); the Annual Letter Writing Campaign of the American Bar Association Committee on Practice and Procedure Before the National Labor Relations Board and the Midwinter Report on the Family Medical Leave Act, published by the Section of Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association.
Mr. Fried received his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of California, Berkeley, and his J.D. degree from Santa Clara University School of Law, where he was Technical Editor of the Santa Clara Law Review. Mr. Fried manages the Northern California private sector labor employment practice for the AALRR Employer Services Practice Group.
