Michael J. Davis


Practice Areas

Michael Davis is an associate in the Pleasanton office. He represents California school districts, county offices of education, and community college districts. His focus on education law includes general liability and employment issues. He litigates matters arising under the California Education Code, California Government Code, and other state and federal statutes. 

Mr. Davis has litigated a variety of labor and employment matters at arbitration and before the California Public Employment Relations Board and the California Office of Administrative Hearings. Before joining the firm, Mr. Davis worked as an attorney for a public employee union, where he represented employees at administrative hearings; represented the union in litigation; negotiated collective bargaining agreements, memoranda of understanding, and other agreements; and trained staff on legal matters. He also worked as an Assistant District Attorney, litigating bench and jury trials and motion hearings.

He speaks Portuguese and Spanish.

Mr. Davis earned a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Fairfield University, majoring in International Studies, Latin American & Caribbean Studies. During college, he was in the international relations honors society Sigma Ioto Rho, on the Dean’s List, and a Presidential Scholar. Mr. Davis won a Fulbright scholarship, which he used to research the development of the biofuel industry in Brazil and coordinate and edit a book about biofuel technologies and sustainable practices.

Mr. Davis earned his Juris Doctor from University of Connecticut School of Law, where he won CALI awards for receiving the highest grade in his trial advocacy and civil procedure classes and was awarded the Edward L. Stephenson Memorial Prize for excellence in civil procedure. During law school, Mr. Davis served as an intern with the Connecticut State’s Attorney’s Office, the United States Attorney’s Office, and a private law firm.

Publications and Speaking Engagements
Mr. Davis co-edited the book BIOFUELS: Reasonable Steps Towards a Renewable Energy Future (Fulbright Commission, DF, Brazil)(2010). He also co-authored two chapters of the book.
