Kirsten Zittlau advises school districts on issues involving students with disabilities arising under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and/or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Ms. Zittlau represents clients in various litigation matters and in administrative hearings, including special education hearings before the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH). Ms. Zittlau regularly attends IEP meetings and mediations on behalf of school districts. Ms. Zittlau also has extensive experience with all phases of litigation, from initial discovery and depositions through successful motions for summary judgment and trial.
Ms. Zittlau previously worked as a special education teacher for a school district in northern San Diego County in which she taught functional life skills, including vocational skills and community safety, to adult students ages 18-22. This teaching experience provides Ms. Zittlau with valuable insights into the legal and practical challenges faced by school districts.
Ms. Zittlau earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in history from University of California, Berkeley and her special education teaching credential from San Diego State University. She received her Juris Doctor from University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
