John W. Dietrich


Practice Areas

John Dietrich is a partner in the Sacramento office of Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo. Mr. Dietrich has been with the firm for nearly two decades, representing private sector clients, California school districts, and community college districts in education law and labor relations matters, with a focus on employee discipline and termination, discrimination claims, unfair practice charges, and negotiations. He also represents private sector clients, California school districts and community college districts regarding real property, land use, and environmental law, with an emphasis on eminent domain and litigation of real property matters. Mr. Dietrich previously served as the Partner in Charge of the firm’s Riverside office.

Mr. Dietrich frequently presents on key topics related to his clients’ many interests, from the Brown Act to progressive discipline, to FPPC compliance. He is also regularly shares his expertise regarding the firm’s FRISK Manual.  A contributor to the firm’s blogs, he also writes on a number of critical issues, from the consequences of AB 1432 on school districts, updates in prevailing wage law, CEQA concerns, and new legislation as it arises.  

Prior to law school, Mr. Dietrich was employed in private sector management for 10 years. He also served as a Squad Leader and Jumpmaster in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division.

Mr. Dietrich received his Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California and his Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from California State University, San Bernardino.
